Question:
CAN HEART HICCUPS MAKE YOU BLACK OUT? AND IF SO IS IT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE PREVENTED OR STOPPED? AND WHAT CAN CAUSE THEM?  I AM 38 YRS OLD, HAD MITRAL VALVE REPAIR 5 YRS AGO. AND LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING A FORK LIFT AND CRASHED IT IN TO A STEEL BEAM BECAUSE I BLACKED OUT WITH OUT WARNING. WENT TO THE DOCTORS AND THEY THINK IT MIGHT BE FROM HEART HICCUPS. IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Some of my colleagues make things so confusing! This needs to be further evaluated. I assume you are scheduled for all sorts of tests. If not, you may want to find yourself another doctor, because this is potentially a serious problem. If it is an irregular heart beat (arrhythmia, your heart may have been too slow or too fast. In either situation, the blood flow to your body and especially your brain can become insufficient, causing the black-out.

It is not uncommon to have arrhythmias associated with valve disease, and you may have had an abnormal rhythm for a long time.

When it becomes associated with fainting or other warning signals it needs further evaluation and treatment:
