Fast Heart Rate during work out

Question: 
Sometimes during my work out i push hard and my heart rate reach like 180 beats while my max heart rate and target HR are 178 and 141 respectively using the 220-age formula… would this high rate (180bpm) hurt my heart or health? what is the max heart rate during work out for someone in my age?I am a healthy 42 yrs male.Mercy,Alex

Hi Alex,
You probably measure your heart rate in the gym with one of those machines, often very inaccurate!

I am almost 68 yo, and my heart rate reaches 170bpm on the elliptical trainer (reality about 130).

Therefore, if you have no symptoms, or troublesome side effects, you don’t need to worry. If you still are, calculate your risk for heart disease here:
