Question:
Hello, I know that DBP is supposed to remain the same during exercise and that systolic blood pressure is supposed to rise. my DBP stayed the same during an exercise test, which the doctor said was good.. but he said my SBP went only up to 150, which he said was low. My resting BP was 98/70. I’m a 21 year old male. is 150 SBP bad during exercise?

Hi Nick,
Your blood pressure (BP) is fine! In order to meet the increased blood demand that occurs with exercise, your heart has to pump faster and harder, pushing more blood into the fixed space of your arteries. Thus, all physical activity increases blood flow and . Because arteries cannot expand very much to accommodate this extra blood, the blood pressure will rise temporarily.
A healthy lifestyle (which includes regular exercise will help your BP stay at normal levels.

Hope this helps,
Dr T
