A glass of Red Wine

Drinking a glass of red wine has long been known to be heart healthy. Antioxidants in red wine may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of "good" cholesterol and protecting your arteries against the development of atherosclerosis. The antioxidants in wine comes from the skin of the grapes. Because red wine is fermented longer than white wine, red wine contains more antioxidants.Other foods that contain some antioxidants include peanuts, blueberries and cranberries. The amount of antioxidants in food and red wine can vary widely.

Excessive alcohol increases your risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, liver damage, obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiomyopathy causing heart failure in some people.
